Bowel Screening

The Scottish Bowel Screening Programme invites all men and women in Scotland between the ages of 50 to 74 for screening every two years

http://www.bowelscreening.scot.nhs.uk/

Patients reaching the age of 74 still have the option to participate in screening, but must self-refer to the programme (telephone Scottish Bowel Screening Helpline 0800 0121 833).

The evidence supporting the screening programme shows a 10% relative risk reduction in colorectal cancer mortality compared with no screening. We aim to improve the uptake of bowel screening in the 50-74 year old target population and ensure that it is advertised in our waiting areas to encourage patients to participate.
