Immunisation programme

Immunisation is a way of protecting against serious diseases. Once we have been immunised, our bodies are better able to fight these diseases if we come into contact with them.

School Nurse Team- School Nurse and Health Support Care Worker

The NHS Grampian School Health Service is staffed by School Nurses who are registered Nurses who have studied to complete an additional specialist qualification in School Nursing.  Our Healthcare Support Workers are not registered nurses and have experience working with children.

All children will still be offered a core health assessment in Primary 1. Immunisations are offered through the School Immunisation team.

In addition School Nurses will focus on young people who face additional challenges according to 10 areas which the Scottish Government has identified.

The 10 key areas that School Nurses will focus on are:

  • Substance Misuse
  • Child Protection
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Looked After Children
  • Homelessness
  • Youth Justice
